Hello Everyone!!!!
It has been a few days since I have been able to update and i am so very sorry and just so you know, our first week back to the hospital has been very busy and very sleep deprived. I'm really hoping that Macey and I get a few days of nothing special. Maybe a movie or two is on the menu. I did want to share with everyone that our Wednesday evening was very very special....
MACEY RECEIVED HER STEM CELL TRANSPLANT!!!? YIPPIE!!! YES!!! FANTASTC!!!? HOORAY!!! GROW CELLS GROW!!!
Macey had lots of work to do in the week before and I'm sure the weeks to follow, though we are all hoping that things are as smooth as ice. Macey was given benadryl before getting her NEW cells so that she would not get any rashes, hives, etc. Just like platelets and blood, the cells are a blood product and not her own so a half dose of benadryl was given. Now mind you, benadryl makes Miss Macey very sleepy.....
Dr. Bunin and a few nurses came in with the cells in a bag, they looked just like red fruit punch to me, we were told that Macey was getting about half of what was collected from Melissa, and the other half was going to be frozen and saved. Macey was starting to get tired. She was able to be awake for a while as she was getting them. They were hung up on her pole and given just as if she was getting blood.
Her new cells were given to her over 1 1/2 hours, and for anyone that didn't already know,Melissa was in the donating between 6-7 hours. SISTER LOVE!!!
Let's pray the cells from Melissa do just what they are supposed to do in their new body!!!
Night for now. It's been a blessed day!! Please remember all of the kids with cancer and Macey and I send a few extra ones to our wonderful new friends here on 3 south and central.
Love, macey's mom marti
