Kate's Memorial Benefit
A great success...
thanks to everyone who attended
While in the hospital, Kate Anzelone told her parents that she had a plan - she wanted to create a fundraising effort that would help her fellow cancer patients.
Kate knew she was lucky ... as she had countless friends and family who would visit her during her stays in the hospital. That was not the case for a majority of the kids on her floor - many of whom had very little outside contact during their hospital stay. Always thinking of others, she did her best to interact with those who were not as fortunate as she and would make it her personal goal to brighten up their day. All this while fighting her own battle against Lymphoma.
Kate's memory remains alive and well through the efforts of her family and friends. All the money that was raised last night is donated back to our local schools and the program she created - Gifts from Kate. The foundation through the course of the year will offer kids and young adults with cancer the opportunity receive a Gift from Kate. A foundation member will go to the hospital and meet with the patient and find out what they can do to make their hospital stay a little better. It could be a DVD player an Ipod or books... what ever the need. Once the item is purchased we go back to the hospital and re-visit the patient, give them their gift, and spend some quality time with them.
Though Kate might not be there, her spirit certainly is....
