St Mary By the Sea is a retreat house for the Sisters of St. Joseph. Through out the course of the summer the sister's will make at least one retreat to the convent for a week of meditation, prayer and devotion ... all in complete silence.
But on the first weekend of June ...
The Sisters opened the doors to the general public to join their 100 Year Celebration of the Convent in Cape May Point!
The sisters opened the convent for a weekend art workshop, guided tours and a Live Art Auction on Saturday night. The funds from the weekend events will raise some much needed dollars to help refurbish a building that's over 110 years old.
I was asked if I could handle the auction and with the help of Sister Celeste we had ourselves a really enjoyable evening selling some great art pieces!
All I can say is ... St. Joseph was shining down on us and his will was for his followers to have a good time, a lot of laughs and some wonderful fellowship!
Because we had a
NUN-raiser ... FUN-raiser
on Saturday Night!
Vicki and I were given a VIP Tour by the "quiet & shy" superintendent of the building and grounds, Sister Kathy Hart (who would give the Flying Nun a run for the money in the laughs department) Sister Kathy wanted me to have a better understand what we were raising the money for and really helped me get in the FUN-raising mood...
This original 1890's Ice Cooler was stripped and re-finished
by Sister Kathy all in one week...
I hope that Sister Kathy will come out of her shell one of these days ... lol
Sister Kathy, thanks for the VIP Tour and all the laughs... God sure has blessed you with a wonderful sense of humor and a huge heart!!!!
I would like to say Thank You to the Sisters of St Joseph - they have dedicated their lives to God, the Catholic Church, our community and teaching our youth...
What a fun group of ladies as we had a lot of laughs at the live auction!
